Job Description

Camp Navarro is seeking an entry-level Grounds and Maintenance Technicians to join the team for 2024. The ideal candidate has some experience working in general maintenance in a Resort or Hotel setting   and has the skills to troubleshoot and perform routine building maintenance and grounds keeping duties. This candidate is personable and represents Camp Navarro well with guests, staff and vendors, has a passion for nature and environmental stewardship.

Essential Duties

  • Welcomes and acknowledges all guests, anticipates and addresses guests’ service needs, and thanks guests with genuine appreciation.
  • Maintain the physical functionality and safety of the facility and grounds including, but not limited to, guest rooms, public space and heart-of-the-house areas.
  • Respond to assigned Corrective and Preventative Maintenance requests and complete work orders in a timely and effective manner
  • Review and complete daily work assignments provided by supervisor
  • Use tools safely and correctly while also maintaining clean work areas at all times to include a clean maintenance shop, and any other areas assigned to maintenance oversight.
  • Conducts room inspections as assigned and identifies repair needs.
  • Perform general maintenance duties including, but not limited to, minor building, electrical, plumbing and kitchen repairs, painting and woodworking, and trash removal. Assist on major property maintenance as needed that does not require a licensed professional.
  • Perform general groundskeeping and landscaping duties including, but not limited to trail maintenance, irrigation, operating garden and landscaping equipment to mow lawns, manicuring landscape and weeding.
  • Perform support duties to events to include preparing indoor and outdoor areas for events to include setting up/breaking down as needed, including but not limited to set-up and tear-down of electrical such as lighting, event structures, special fixtures, climbing wall, tents, tables/chairs, signage, loading and unloading equipment, parking assistance during events.
  • Ensures the security and proper care of Camp Navarro inventory such as tools, supplies, equipment, furniture, etc.
  • Replenishes supplies in a timely and efficient manner, minimizing waste and ensuring that equipment is prepared and operational for the next shift.
  • Empties all trash containers on a scheduled basis.
  • Performs work to local, state and Federal codes.
  • Practices safe work habits, wears protective safety equipment and complies with MSDS and OSHA standards.
  • Maintains a clean work area for both guests and staff.
  • Adheres to company policies and procedures. 
  • Adheres to Camp Navarro appearance guidelines.
  • ​​Acts with a sense of urgency.

Customer Service and Teamwork

  • Meets and exceeds customers’ and co-workers’ expectations by providing excellent service and teamwork.
  • Provides value added service to customers by doing whatever is reasonable and possible to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Communicates effectively with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Keeps Grounds and Facilities Manager fully informed of all problems or matters of significance.
  • Knows all safety and emergency procedures, is aware of accident prevention policies and reporting procedures.
  • Provides awareness to Grounds and Facilities Manager of any undesirable persons on Camp Navarro premises.
  • Attends all department meetings
  • Responds to emergency situations on short notice.
  • Maintains a favorable working relationship with all other company employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working environment.
  • Projects a favorable image of Camp Navarro to the public at all times

Qualifications and Standards

Education: High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent work experience

Experience: 1-2 years experience working in general maintenance in a Resort or Event setting preferred. Additional experience with minor electrical, carpentry and/or plumbing a plus.

Qualifications

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace
  • Must be able to speak and understand the primary language used by the guests who visit the hotel.
  • Current CA driver license and safe driving record
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Basic painting, carpentry and/or general maintenance skills
  • Demonstrates ability to understand and effectively implement written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong team orientation and ability to work with a variety of departments to accomplish assigned tasks
  • Ability to quickly problem solve and make sensible decisions
  • Strong interpersonal skills and recognition by others as a respected member of the team
  • Must possess excellent attention to detail, a high level or organization, and the ability to multitask, follow through and re-prioritize well to meet deadlines on multiple projects
  • Maintains regular attendance, is consistently on time and complies with all amp Navarro standards.
  • Scheduling flexibility to meet operational needs
