Join us as a Harvest Tractor Driver during Harvest 2024 and work with a leader in organic wine production. We farm approximately 830 acres in the Hopland and Ukiah areas.
Schedule Estimated Duration: Approx early August through early November
Hours will vary depending on qualifications and experience and could include day or night shift, or a mix of both. Some Saturdays may be required. Sunday night shifts may be required if supporting machine harvest. Requires overtime as needed.
Essential Functions
Intermediate tractor driver position. Duties for this intermediate level tractor driver position include, but are not limited to:
• Perform semi-skilled level tractoring tasks such as operation of under vine mechanical weeders (Clem-ens, Kimco, etc.), calibration of cultivation equipment in the field and spraying and dusting for application of various chemicals which includes all aspects of the task; mixing load, filling sprayer/duster, being safe-ty conscious of drift during application and cleaning of sprayer/duster, chopping and mowing, disking and light duty spader/cultivation
• Daily equipment checks and some light mechanic skills are required
• May be required to train lower level employees
• Shuttle drivers and gondolas from field to loading and unloading areas during harvest
• Safely operate all ATVs - 4 or 6 wheel
• Perform maintenance checks
• Communicate with supervisors and/or mechanics regarding concerns or needs
• Perform all functions safely
• Operate or tend other equipment used in agricultural production, such as backhoes, loaders and irrigation equipment
• Manipulate controls to set, activate and adjust mechanisms on machinery
• Observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions
• Attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers or harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools
• Drive trucks to haul supplies, tools, or farm workers
• Adjust farm machinery and notify supervisors when machinery malfunctions
• Operate towed machines to dust and spray crops
• Load hoppers, containers or conveyors to feed machines with products, using hovels or pitchforks
• Spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases, using hand sprayers and tractor mounted implements
• Mix specified materials or chemicals and dump solutions, powders or seeds into sprayer machinery
• Irrigate soil, using portable pipes or ditch systems; aintain ditches or pipes / pumps
• Load/unload crops or containers of materials manually
Requirements
• 3-5 years of related experience and knowledge of tractor operations and basic maintenance
• Valid Driver’s License – May be required based on assignment/duties
• Demonstrated ability to follow directions as given by supervisor and work under limited supervision
• Demonstrated reliability and punctuality
• Work effectively in team/crew environment
• Adhere to all safety regulations and operating procedures
• Successful completion of ATV and tractor safety training
• Must be able to work late night & early mornings to accommodate application of materials to plants
• Must be able to work in all types of weather, temperatures, and conditions
• Maintain satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness, throughout the entire harvest season
• Ability to read and write; basic to good math skills; attention to detail
• Ability to understand and comply with all safety requirements
• Must be reliable and show commitment to the job. Must have flexibility with scheduling, willingness to work various schedules and work overtime and weekends as needed
• During busy periods, effort will be made to provide employees with adequate advance notice should over-time become necessary. All overtime work must have the prior authorization of the employee’s supervisor before it is performed
• Use of respirator and respirator clearance required
• Bilingual English/Spanish, a plus
Pay Rate: $22 - $24/per hr
Physical Requirements - Ability lift, carry and push/pull up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis; frequently stand, walk, sit, climb & bend; con-stantly reach outward & upward; requires constant hand/finger dexterity; ability to occasionally crawl & squat or kneel. Must be able to work in all weather conditions including but not limited to heat, cold, wet & windy. Ability to walk & perform physical work in vineyards with steep and/or uneven terrain, mud, dust & soft soil. Requires PPE such as safety toe footwear, hearing protection & safety glasses
