Position description

The Ninth Judicial Circuit Court is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to provide support services for the Family Dependency Drug Court and the Early Childhood Court Programs ensuring that all court ordered clients have the resources necessary to successfully complete the program.  The candidate for this position will need to conduct their work with utmost discretion. This position will be located at the Thomas S. Kirk Justice Center, 2000 E. Michigan Street, Orlando, Florida 32806.

Duties include providing administrative support to the Family Dependency Drug Court and Early Childhood Court coordinators and providing peer support services to program participants. Work will include dealing with confidential dependency cases, as well as providing individual coaching and advocacy to clients who need assistance with navigating treatment providers and resource referrals.  The person in this position will have the opportunity to work with a multi-disciplinary team to gather information and provide the best wraparound care possible for clients.  This position requires some flexibility to work evening hours and travel locally on an as needed basis. 

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, be able to work closely with others, be detail oriented and have a proven ability to adhere to strict confidentiality in the workplace.  The person in this position must have the capacity to interact professionally and effectively with others, to include coworkers, government officials, families, and other outside agency staff. Knowledge of the dependency system and rehabilitation principles, practices, procedures, terminology, and systems is a plus.

A High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by three (3) years of related experience.  A Bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or a closely related field is preferred.  Recovery Peer Specialist or Case Management Certification Preferred.  Lived experience in the family dependency system preferred. This position is an Orange County funded position with benefits.
