Your role and responsibilities Lead research and R&D projects with multidisciplinary teams. Scout new technologies, generate project proposals, and get buy-in from sponsors and potential receivers. Assess new technologies for a variety of applications (power supplies, grid connected converters, UPS, EV chargers, motor drives, and more). Coordinate the generation of project proposals for third party funding. Develop technical requirements and creating new designs. Supervise the design of electronic circuits and printed circuit boards. Supervise the development of firmware for low and high level functions of power converters. Coordinate and engage in relationship with key suppliers. Supervise the generation and testing of simulation models and hardware demonstrators. Supervise the prototyping of test assemblies, running experiments, and recording of test data. Supervise the analysis of test results and generation of documentation. Supervise and contribute to the preparing internal and external technical reports, presentations, and publications. Write invention disclosures and provide technical inputs for patent filings. Represent ABB in professional conferences, industry consortia, and other events. Contribute to strategic planning activities.
Qualifications for the role - Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering in the field of Power Electronics preferred with a minimum 5 years experience in Power Electronics and/or Power Converters OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering in the field of Power Electronics with a minimum 10 years experience in Power Electronics and/or Power Converters.
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, work in international teams, and lead teams and manage projects.
- Experience with writing proposals and securing third party funding for research projects.
- Demonstrated skills in effective communication, presentation of results, and networking.
- Experience with designing and prototyping of electrical circuits, working with PCB manufacturers and machine shops for manufacturing of prototypes.
- Experience lab equipment, such as oscilloscopes, probes, meters, power supplies, and another basic lab equipment.
- Experience with writing firmware code for DSPs, MCUs, and FPGAs (c, c++, Verilog).
- Experience with PCB design.
- Ability to travel up to 15% travel.
- Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
