Primary Function

A. O. Smith is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as an Robotic Process Automation Lead. ​ In this role, you will be responsible for leading the deployment and maintenance of automation tools. Reporting to the Global Business Solutions team and working closely with stakeholders, you will play a key role in identifying, developing, and deploying the right business solutions to optimize workflow processes. ​ Your expertise and leadership will be crucial in driving the success of automation projects and ensuring their alignment with organizational needs and goals. ​ This position offers an opportunity to showcase your problem-solving abilities, technical proficiency, and in-depth understanding of A. Smith's end-to-end business processes and go-to-market strategy. ​ As an RPA Lead, you will have a direct impact on our organization's operations and growth in the rapidly evolving digital robotic landscape. ​

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, configuration, and maintenance of RPA scripts and workflows to automate tasks across various business functions. ​
  • Make strategic decisions related to project architecture, technology stack, and implementation approaches.
  • Supervise, mentor, and guide internal stakeholders and off-shore development resources, ensuring effective collaboration, knowledge sharing, and team performance.
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager and business leadership to prioritize automation projects based on organizational needs, available resources, and team expertise. ​
  • Analyze and map business processes to assess automation feasibility, identifying potential efficiencies or enhancements. ​
  • Estimate project costs and benefits, identify necessary resources, and evaluate potential software vendors or tools, ensuring alignment with project requirements and budget constraints. ​
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring buy-in and smooth progression between project phases from inception through to completion. ​
  • Regularly monitor deployed automations to ensure optimal performance, making adjustments as necessary to maintain or improve efficiency. ​
  • Actively seek and implement continuous improvement opportunities for existing automations. ​
  • Lead the requirements gathering process, working closely with business users to understand their needs and translate them into detailed project designs and specifications. ​
  • Coordinate functional testing to ensure automations meet defined objectives, and prepare User Acceptance Testing (UAT) plans, facilitating testing sessions with stakeholders to validate outcomes. ​

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive training materials and provide ongoing support and training to business users to ensure effective adoption and usage of automation solutions. ​
  • Prepare detailed go-live plans, ensuring a smooth transition of automations to the production environment, and manage any post-deployment issues or adjustments. ​
  • Assess and confirm the value realization of automation initiatives, presenting data and insights on the effectiveness and impact of automations to stakeholders. ​
  • Maintain thorough documentation for all automation projects, including design documents, process maps, and performance reports, ensuring knowledge is preserved and accessible for future reference. ​
  • Ensure that all automations comply with relevant regulations and internal policies, especially concerning governance, data security, and privacy. ​
  • Work closely with IT, data, and functional teams to ensure alignment and integration with broader systems and initiatives. ​

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline. ​
  • 7+ years of hands-on RPA development experience, with a strong preference for experience within the UI Path environment, including proficiency with the Robotic Enterprise Framework, selectors, and Orchestrator. ​
  • Deep understanding of RPA best practices and methodologies. ​
  • Capable of designing complex automation solutions and troubleshooting at a detailed level.
  • 4+ years of development experience with a mainstream programming language (e.g., C++, Python, etc. ​), ideally demonstrating significant contributions across at least three development projects. ​
  • Experience in developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex SQL statements, with proven efficiency in handling large datasets. ​
  • Knowledge in debugging, logging, error handling, and troubleshooting techniques. ​
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment and provide technical and project leadership to a development team. ​
  • Previous experience in automating business processes within SAP or other ERP systems is highly desirable. ​
  • UI Path Automation Developer Associate Certification is highly preferred. ​
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration within the IT department and across business units. ​
  • A natural curiosity and a keen interest in continuous learning and personal development. ​
  • Experience with analytics, data science, AI, or process mining tools, such as Celonis, is considered a valuable asset. ​

Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology Management or Related Field
