DESCRIPTION
The Elastic Block Store (EBS) organization is the hard-drive for the Internet, storing exabytes of data for millions of customers, powering some of the biggest websites and services available online. The EBS product allows AWS customers to quickly provision and use scalable storage that meets the needs of their business. We build scalable products that enable our customer’s businesses to grow. EBS is growing as the amount of data used by businesses that run on AWS continues to increase. If the idea of building large distributed systems that enable Petabyte scale excites you then this is the right opportunity for you.
As an engineer, you will get the opportunity to work on large-scale distributed systems, improve availability and performance, and innovate to increase hardware resource utilization to improve costs for our customers. The ideal candidate would possess analytical, design, problem solving skills and experience in building & operating large scale systems. You will work closely with a tight, agile team that ships often, iterates quickly and takes pride in the product they deliver.

Key job responsibilities
* Analyze customer needs and design solutions that keep the customer front of mind
* Design, implement, deploy, and maintain innovative and high quality distributed software solutions
* Define metrics and monitoring procedures to provide visibility in how your software is behaving
* Document software solutions and operational procedures
* Work in an agile development environment, where you are always working on the most important stuff
* Mentor junior software development engineers

About the team
The AWS Elastic Block Store (EBS) organization delivers high-performing virtualized storage “in the cloud” for Amazon Web Services. This is a foundational AWS service on which most other AWS services depend. Our team's software sits at the heart of all our customers' disk I/O. More specifically our team is responsible for the networking and interconnectivity of various aspects of one of the biggest distributed systems in the universe. Being at the heart of much of what AWS does presents numerous opportunities for growth along any engineering vector you are interested in.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
