POSITION AVAILABLE

Position: Structural Design Manager

Location: Portland, Oregon

Duties: Perform beam, column, wall, and foundation gravity load takeoffs and macro-design under the daily supervision of a licensed engineer. Initial beam, column and wall layouts are to be set up by supervising licensed engineer. Determine the actual lateral loads (seismic and wind) as well as performing macro-design of lateral load resisting elements based on a building lateral load resistance layout set up by supervising engineer. This is to be performed under the daily supervisions of a licensed engineer . Perform calculations during construction to assist supervising licensed engineer calculate structural fixes as required and determined by the licensed supervising engineer. Independently perform initial beam, column, wall, foundation layouts, and lateral load resisting element layouts. Then independently perform gravity and lateral load takeoffs/calculations and macro-design of gravity and lateral load systems along with making revisions to the structural layout as required. The supervising licensed engineer to review the structural layouts and calculations at milestone points throughout the design. Perform micro-design (i.e. connections of all gravity and lateral load elements) to be reviewed by the supervising licensed engineer. Analyze survey reports and topographical/geologic data to prepare design work necessary for structural design and plan preparation. Produce structural drawings in CAD or Revit. Manage timelines and communicate with clients to meet project commitments and deadlines . Manage the scope of work for project and understand where ASRs (additional scope requests) are required .  Work with clients and their technical staff with respect to all aspects of the project, for coordination of the project between client and all sub-consultants . Work with clients to design or aid in the design of miscellaneous items requiring structural design (i.e. partitions, fall protection, PV panels, signage, lighting, etc.) . Manage construction services for buildings during the construction phase under the supervision of a licensed engineer. This includes reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and communicating effectively with the general contractors, subcontractors, owner, architect, and other design sub-consultants. Manage and attend all site visits to observe structures in construction. Produce site observation reports including specifying elements of the structure which do not adhere to the contract documents. Determine solutions to structural fixes required during construction by performing calculations. Final fix is reviewed by the licensed supervising engineer .

Education: Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with emphasis in structures, or a closely related field as demonstrated by coursework in structural analysis, dynamics, and mechanics, and in concrete and steel, or similar coursework (foreign equivalent degree accepted), AND

Experience: 3 years' experience as a Structural Designer, Structural Engineer in Training, or similar position.

Skills/Requirements:

1. 3 years’ experience in gravity design utilizing all major structural materials (i.e. concrete, steel, wood, CMU, and light gage).
2. 3 years’ experience in seismic design in a region of high seismicity (i.e. Seismic Design Category D or higher).
3. 3 years of experience using Revit

All experience, skills and requirements may be gained concurrently.
